The Northern kingdom of Israel turned its back on the truth about God, and substituted their own religious and secular mindset. They persecuted those who stood for the truth. But God did still not abandon them, even though they were running away from Him. Through prophets like Elijah and Elisha He sought to bring the people back to Himself. In several important ways, this runaway society is like our own - a society which once held to and respected the Truth is now seeking to eliminate any claims which God might have on people's lives (May 2009)
